Drug Information and Support

Breakthrough for Families Queensland.

Breakthrough is a program that provides information and support to families and significant others of individuals affected by methamphetamine and other substances.

The program involves:

  • The provision of free public alcohol and drug (AOD) information sessions
  • Connection to Family AOD Workers who can provide brief intensive support to family members
  • Referral to other assistance including peer support and social services

Breakthrough Our Way is targeted towards Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities and is delivered by the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC). Click here for more details

Breakthrough for Families Queensland and Breakthrough Our Way are funded by Queensland Health and delivered in partnership with Insight, the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council and Family Drug Support.

Family Drug Support

Family Drug Support (FDS) is a caring, non-religious organisation which provides non-judgemental support and information to families and friends of alcohol and/or drug users across Australia.

The service offers:

  • 24/7 Telephone Support Line: operated by volunteers with lived experience
  • Open Support Group Meetings: 2 hour meetings held monthly in various locations across South East Queensland
  • Stepping Forward: a series of 2 hour education and interactive sessions covering drug and alcohol related topics.  Locations across South East Queensland, bookings are essential.
  • Stepping Stones to Success: 4 day structured, interactive and experiential course that brings people together with similar challenges.  Locations across South East Queensland, bookings are essential.
